Victoria University of Wellington – Te Toki a Rata

With student numbers quickly growing, Wellington’s largest University was under a tight deadline to have their new home for the School of Biological Sciences open for public use, fully operational and signed off with Council.

The Challenge:

Victoria University’s project at their Kelburn Campus was a huge undertaking. The project hit several unfortunate delays along the way, with changes in contractors and managers creating unforeseen hurdles. With deadlines looming, the university needed confidence and certainty that the building would be approved for occupation and use with no critical delays.

How Farsight Helped:

Fortunately, project managers RCP had the foresight to engage Farsight early in the process. This allowed Farsight to assist with any potential compliance issues well before they could come to fruition.

From the beginning of the project, Farsight efficiently collated all the required information to submit the multiple building consent applications to Council. Further to this, Farsight also managed the process of applying for and coordinating the Certificates of Public Use to enable occupation on time. The efficiency in this process saved both the project managers and the University from any potential headaches with paperwork or time frames.

The final part of the puzzle was applying for and achieving code compliance certificates for the various consents. This was a complex process due to the build time and contractor changes but was diligently followed through to achieve final sign off.

The Outcome:

With the opportunity to manage the consent process from end to end, Farsight gained a truly in-depth understanding of the building itself and was able to add real value to the project.

Te Toki a Rata opened to students and staff on schedule in 2017 and is in the final stages of achieving full code compliance sign off.
