2021 - 2026

We have a long relationship with Farsight and have used this service and formula successfully on a number of projects we have done including ROKI. We brought Farsight in from the outset to avoid any potential issues — and that’s exactly what we achieved.” “They flagged issues early so we could get in front of them before council became involved. That saved significant time.” “Having someone experienced dealing with council at a consenting and approval level makes a huge difference.” “It’s hard to quantify, but the service de-risks a part of the building process that can become extremely problematic if not done properly.” “They consistently meet and exceed expectations — we always get a good result.”

The Challenge

ROKI Collection set out to create a lakefront sanctuary in the heart of Queenstown — a boutique ultra-luxury property where every detail matters, from the suites framing Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables, to elevated wellness and dining experiences.

The programme spanned multiple stages, while there was no single-issue driving engagement, the client made a deliberate decision to involve Farsight early — recognising that getting the consent process right from the outset would avoid downstream risk.

The project itself was inherently complex:

  • A high-end luxury development with evolving design detail
  • High expectations for quality of finish
  • A fixed opening date with no room for delays

The risk wasn’t a known problem — it was the potential for issues to emerge through consenting, inspections, and council approvals if not proactively managed.

How Farsight helped

  • Proactive consenting strategy from the outset
Farsight was engaged early to shape the consenting pathway, ensuring alignment across design, procurement, and construction – preventing issues rather than reacting to them.
  • Identifying and resolving issues early
Throughout the build, Farsight flagged potential compliance risks early, allowing the team to address them ahead of council involvement – saving significant time and avoiding rework.
  • Experienced council interface
A consistent, experienced interface with council led by senior expertise ensured a smooth consent and approval process, giving the client confidence that requirements were being handled correctly.
  • Staged approvals and CPU planning
Clear planning for staged consents and Certificates for Public Use (CPU) enabled progress across different parts of the development without delays to the overall programme.
  • Inspection readiness and close-out discipline
Structured QA, documentation, and coordination ensured inspections and signoffs were efficient, with no last-minute surprises.

The Outcome

  • Seamless consenting and compliance process
A proactive approach resulted in a smooth pathway from consenting through to completion.
  • Significant time savings
Early issue identification and resolution reduced delays and avoided rework during critical project stages.
  • De-risked delivery
The compliance aspect of the build – often a major source of uncertainty – was effectively managed, removing a key pressure point for the project team.
  • Stronger project confidence
With an experienced partner managing council engagement and approvals, the team could focus on delivery with confidence.
