The Farsight Milestone: A New Era in Building Control
- March 10, 2026
In 2011, Farsight was founded on a simple but ambitious belief: that the building consent process could be a partnership rather than a hurdle. We dreamed of a day where we could provide a level of technical clarity and consistency that has been lacking for the NZ industry.
Now, that dream is a reality.
We are incredibly proud to announce that Farsight has officially achieved registration as a standalone Building Consent Authority (BCA) in New Zealand. This has been a long and, at times, challenging journey. We started with clear values — helping people do what’s right, trusting that good things follow. While the journey was long and the path wasn’t always clear, we never lost sight of why we started: to bring a higher level of value and a distinct difference to the NZ building sector. We’re here to have a positive impact on the built environment by being more than just a regulator — we are a specialist partner committed to excellence and the future of our industry.
A Shared Victory
We want to thank you for the trust you’ve placed in us over the years. You’ve been an integral part of the journey that led to this milestone. We feel immense pride in what has been achieved, and real energy for what comes next.
Upholding the Public Trust
We recognise that BCA registration carries a significant public responsibility. Our focus is on continuing to deliver a robust, independent, and professional service that upholds the integrity of New Zealand’s building control system. At Farsight, our mantra remains: we are not here to catch people out — we are here to “catch people in” by ensuring success through communication and technical excellence.
The Standard of Excellence
Becoming a Private BCA requires demonstrating to both the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) that an organisation’s systems, governance, technical capability, and quality management meet the highest standards.
Following an intensive 24-month process, including detailed and at times exhaustive assessment, Farsight has successfully demonstrated that it meets those requirements.
While the registration is recent, the foundations are deep. Farsight has been accredited as an Accredited Organisation (Building) (AoB) since 2018 and achieved accreditation as a stand-alone Building Consent Authority (BCA) in 2025. As part of the most recent IANZ assessment, Farsight was assessed as posing an Extra Low Risk, reflecting the strength of its systems, governance, and technical performance.
Our team has spent over a decade developing extensive knowledge of the Building Act and the practical realities of delivering compliant construction outcomes across New Zealand.
The Path Forward with Summerset
Achieving this registration reflects both the capability of our systems and the tenacity of the people behind them. We are especially grateful for the collaboration and support of Summerset throughout this process. With registration now confirmed, Farsight will undertake building consenting functions for Summerset developments across New Zealand.
A Note of Gratitude to our Team
This milestone required a massive collective effort. From documenting complex quality management systems to refining operational processes, every member of our team has contributed.
To the Farsight team: thank you for the dedication and heart that made this moment possible.
Operations will commence in a measured and staged manner, ensuring that our systems and people are fully embedded from day one.
P.S. We’ve been dreaming of this since 2011, so if we seem a little extra excited, now you know why!
